I modified DevalVR player to create a screensaver version: http://www.devalvr.com/descargas/dps/screensaver.zip

To install the screensaver:

- Place your images in any folder in the hard disk, for example, your panorama is in: C:\panoramas\pano.mov
- Rename the file DevalVR.scr to the name you want, for example: "Panorama screensaver.scr"
- Create a parameters file to configure the screensaver. This file is a text file with the same name that .scr file, for example: "Panorama screensaver.txt"
- Write DevalVR parameters into .txt file. Syntax is the same that for params.txt files. "src" parameter must be full path, for example, to load a MOV file with autoplay:
Code:
src="C:\panoramas\pano.mov"
autoplay=2

- Place .scr and .txt files into Windows system folder, "C:\Windows\" in WindowsXP, or "C:\WinNT\" in Windows2000

Hi Fiero,

I've been experimenting with the dvl files and the transition parameter. The nice thing about the transition parameter is that it allows you to use one sequence file for all of your panos without each new pano starting over in the sequence. It just picks up from where the last one ended. This gives a really good impression of random movement.

The downside is that the transition parameter isn't hardware accelerated. So, even on a relatively fast computer, the transition is very jerky and the screen doesn't update fast enough to go smoothly from one pano to the next.

So, I've removed the transition references in my dvl file, and the switch from one pano to the next is more pleasing to the eye. The problem is, I really miss the continuity of the sequence. Now, without the transition parameter, the sequence starts over from the beginning each time a new pano comes up. After awhile, that makes the sequence predictable.

Is there a way to have the sequence continuity without the transition parameter? Is the transition parameter going to be hardware accelerated? Can I have the best of both worlds? 8^)

Here are the two dvl scripts:

(pano1)
{
TYPE=MOV;
FILE=01.mov;
AUTOMODE=1,1,20,1;
SEQUENCEFILE=testsequence2.txt;
TRANSITION=0,100,3,blend;
}

(pano2)
{
TYPE=MOV;
FILE=02.mov;
SEQUENCEFILE=testsequence2.txt;
TRANSITION=0,100,3,blend;
}

and

(pano1)
{
TYPE=MOV;
FILE=01.mov;
AUTOMODE=1,1,20,1;
SEQUENCEFILE=testsequence2.txt;
}

(pano2)
{
TYPE=MOV;
FILE=02.mov;
SEQUENCEFILE=testsequence2.txt;
}

Thanks!

Mark

Hi again,

I just remembered that you had asked about what installation package I was using. I found one here - http://www.advancedinstaller.com - that is free and will create a very flexible .msi file. Double click on the .msi file, and the software loads.

When you discover Hardware acceleration you can't live without it :wink:

I can do something to avoid initial position of QTVR, while hardware acceleration is coming...

Hehehehe... I think it's true for some people... ;)
But personally I can live without it, so far it worked so fine, I would need other features and bugs corected, before HW acceleration... but you're the developer, so you make your own priorities!

Anyway, and it's a little bit offtopic, I was wondering how many panoramic viewers are using hardware acceleration, right now?! ;) Of course, DevalVR is out of the question...

That would be great! I guess the logic would be that if only one sequence file is used, then don't revert back to the initial position. If a new sequence file is used for each pano, then you would start at the initial position for each new sequence.

Thanks!

I wanted to create a screensaver but I found errors while displaying even simple panorama...why?
Please have a look to my screen shot:
http://www.panometr.com/devalvr/Image%20DevalVR.bmp
The same problem occurs when I want to run screensaver in my Windows XP.

What should I do to have a panoramic screen saver in Windows XP?

Hi Karol

I got this to work well. Its a lovely panorama screensaver.

First, I assume you can view your panorama normally with the DevalVR standalone player, i.e. if you drop your pano file onto the player it should open as a panorama. If you can't see your panorama at this stage then it wont work as a screensaver anyway.

Second, save your panorama file in a folder. I saved mine in a folder called "screensaver", and saved the "screensaver" folder in "C". ie at the address "C\screensaver"

Third, here is a params file to save as "Panorama screensaver.txt".

src="C:\screensaver\pano.mov"
interface=2
closebutton=1
maximize=1
zoom=0.5
autoplay=1

(where my pano is called "pano.mov", yes, it's a QuickTime QTVR,
and this "pano.mov" is in the folder called "screensaver", directly in the "C" folder.)

Fourth, the downloaded "DevalVR.scr" has been renamed to "Panorama screensaver.scr", and placed along with the above "Panorama screensaver.txt" in the "C:\WINDOWS" folder.

In the Windows setup for Screensavers "Panorama screensaver" should now show up as an option.

Bill

This feature is very important now, because screen resolutions are greater each day. These are the stats in my server, this month:

1024x768 - 36.1 %
1280x1024 - 26.1 %
1600x1200 - 5.2 %
1280x800 - 10 %
1440x900 - 4.8 %
others - 17.6 %

Hi lilan,
I'm working in a new version with full hardware acceleration. I know this feature is very important. I have been a lot of time without to update the viewer, but this new version is very close...

I changed my Os form Win Xp to Win7. On Xp I used Devalvr.scr (0.7.7.19) to view my panoramic pictures in screensaver mode (with script file). On Win7 the screensaver is not working. In the preview window it is good, but if I press the preview button, or wait for the automatic activation of the screensaver nothing is happen.
I can't see screensaver version on the Devalvr site, only standardalone player. Is there somewhere working version of screensaver for Win7?
