Hi! I finished a new prototype of my spherical video camera. This version is almost the final design. This version has optical filters in front of the cameras to protect the lenses and to increase the image quality. The filters are removable, this is useful to choose UV filters or CPL (polarized). The camera is weather resistant. The size of the body is 90 x 90 x 105 mm. In the bottom of the camera there is a fast-release plate, to mount the camera in tripod or standard screw. I made some photos of the prototype with the polarized filters: Finally, with this camera I can capture video. The first examples very soon. I posted a screenshot of the capturing program some days ago, this is the link http://www.devalvr.com/fiero/spherical_ ... nshot1.jpgbest regards!

Looking very promising! Keep us posted with your progress, I guess I'm not the only one looking for a professional but affordable spherical video solution.

I have the final configuration of the camera, so now the device is completed. You can see the final look of the camera with the UV filters. Now, it's time to finish the capturing software!

Hey Fiero
Glad to see you can design hardware as well as software -- congratulations on your new project!
Are you willing to post some specs?
As for capture s/w, do you mean real time video stitching? If so I would like to propose a collaboration. I'm well along with a GPU version of Panini that will convert video as well as still images from spherical (or other wide formats) to perspective form, and is designed to support stitching on the GPU too. It can easily render 130 degree video at 30 fps on a rather wimpy GPU, and with a strong one I expect that simultaneously stitching to spherical and generating a Panini projection view should be feasible at full HD. Let me know if you are interested in working together on this.
In any case, please keep us up to date on your progress. Are you blogging this somewhere?
Best, Tom

Hi jaaaab, At the end, the price of the camera is greater than I thought in the first prototype. I think the final price will be 1250€ It will be available this summer, July or August 2010

Hi Tom, You can read some specs in the post of the first prototype. This device is composed by 5 USB cameras of 2MP, with high quality lenses. Thank you for your offering, but at this moment all the software is based in DevalVR player, so, the main work is done. Yes, this will be real time stitching. I will post the advances here. regards!

Nice!
Is it also possible to use the video in another player than DevalVR ?
I'm thinking of a Flash player for web
thanks!

Of course, the output format is a sequence of equirectangular images. You can convert these frames to Flash video or single spherical images.

Hi Fiero, Your 2nd prototype does look amazing and I'm looking forward to viewing online samples of output panoramas and immersive videos. When do you believe it will be ready for sell? Regards from Immersium

This looks good very good but i hope it has flash support, with the ability to stream, it would be nice to stream events, plus still picture capture saved to jpeg. I would love to use it for a diy streetview project like mapjack.com thanks.

Hello! Fiero, can you show examples of video and photo captured by this camera?
