Hi chinapano,
I'm sorry for the delay in the answer. Excuse me all for the lack of updates about this project.
I had several problems with the sensor modules that I will use for this first version of the spherical camera. I tried to solve these problems and I did not have good results. I spent a lot of time searching other sensors, but unfortunately I did not find any alternative with sufficient quality and competitive price. So, I will use the current sensors because they provide the better quality that I found.
The problem with sensors provokes that this camera only can provide 5 FPS at full resolution 6000x3000. So, this resolution will not be usable for video, due to a big skew effect that appears at this low framerate. Maybe this resolution will be useful only to get single panoramic images, without movement. With half resolution of 3000x1500 it's possible to get 25 FPS, so, the defect is smaller. This problem is caused because the sensors has a
rolling shutter. I tried to use the maximum framerate because the defect of rolling shutter is smaller.
I use CMOS sensors. Of course, I could use CCD sensors (to avoid the rolling shutter defects), but the price should be 4 times higher. So, I will use these CMOS sensors for the first version of the camera.
I will receive new lenses soon with some custom features for this project, and I will build some cameras with these new lenses. At this moment I have three new prototypes (smaller than previous one), but I'm waiting for the lenses to finish all the hardware. With this new hardware I will record some examples to test the capture software with real conditions.
I know that this project has been delayed too much, but I continue ahead!
